Introduction
The Department of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine (PCCM) at Shenzhen Second People’s Hospital was established in 1992 and designated as a Key Discipline by the hospital in 2015. It serves as a Master’s Degree Training Base for Shenzhen University, a Postdoctoral Research Station in Respiratory Medicine, a National Residency Training Base, and a National Clinical Research Base for Respiratory Drugs. In 2018, it was officially renamed as the Department of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine, evolving into a comprehensive respiratory care center integrating clinical services, teaching, and research.

The department has 63 beds and a total working area of approximately 1,000 square meters, including:

The department operates multiple specialized clinics, including VIP respiratory outpatient clinics, expert outpatient clinics, and specialized disease clinics for severe/refractory asthma, pulmonary tumors, lung nodules, and interstitial lung disease (ILD). It also offers multidisciplinary consultations for allergic diseases, lung cancer, and complex respiratory infections. Annually, the department handles nearly 50,000 outpatient visits and 3,000 inpatient cases.
The PCCM department is highly experienced in managing critical respiratory conditions, severe/refractory asthma, early diagnosis and late-stage treatment of lung cancer (including lung nodules), chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), interstitial lung diseases, pulmonary infections, and pulmonary embolism.
